Is 40 a magical number?

For the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation, 40 certainly has been a magical number!

Did you know that Helen Colby Small celebrated her 40th year of American Legion Auxiliary membership with a legacy to the Auxiliary? That act of generosity allowed the organization to establish the Auxiliary Emergency Fund, which has provided direct assistance to ALA members for more than 50 years.

Is this the year you celebrate your 40th birthday? Your 40th wedding anniversary? Or 40 years of membership in the American Legion Auxiliary? Perhaps it’s time for you to become a member of the Legacy Society, a group of individuals who have chosen to include a planned gift to the American Legion Auxiliary or the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation in their estate plans. These gifts — no matter the size — will provide future financial support to the Auxiliary.

As a member of the ALA, you surely engage in its programs of service to veterans, military, and their families. Whether volunteering at a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical center, assisting veterans in your local community, supporting military families, or serving at your ALA Girls State program, you are making an impact!

Your legacy of service can continue through your generosity. You can help ensure the American Legion Auxiliary continues to serve the generations that follow. Your gift — whether a single, monthly, or legacy donation — will help ensure our programs and services continue.

I am amazed each time I learn of a new bequest or beneficiary designation. It is truly humbling. These kinds of legacy gifts continue to be a significant inspiration for all who follow, just as Helen Colby Small’s gift was. If you have already included the American Legion Auxiliary Mission Endowment Fund, the American Legion Auxiliary, or the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation in your plans, please be sure to let the Development Division know so that we can count you in the Legacy Society.

It’s time for you to celebrate 40!
