American Legion Auxiliary Unit/Post 221 in Frankfort, Mich., held a patriotic quilt raffle to raise funds for our local Benzie County veterans. A member of the Auxiliary, I made the quilt top and my volunteer friend, Nancy Morris, custom quilted it as her donation to our veterans.

We sold tickets for seven weeks on Friday nights at our Legion’s burger night, which was open to the public. We also sold tickets at our local Farmers Market. The Farmers Market did not charge us a booth fee since it was for our veterans. Also, Sweets Bar and Grill, a very patriotic bar in a nearby town, let us display the quilt during the week and sold tickets for us. Every week we displayed the quilt at Sweets and every Friday, we brought it back to our Legion and sold tickets. We got our raffle tickets printed at our local print shop which did not charge us because it was for our veterans.

This is the second patriotic quilt raffle we have held. The first raffle we made $2,500 and this time we made $2,530.

We presented a check to the service officer at our veteran’s affairs office in Beulah, Mich. This money is to be used to help our local veterans with things such as: utility bills, food, gas, propane, car repair, and this service officer handles their needs.

We are very proud to be able to raise this money to help our local veterans.
